The Story of Our Building

High Country Stoves Building: Before

The building that High Country Stoves & Fireplaces now occupies was built in 1947 as a lumberyard. Swenson Lumber Company was the first of the several lumberyards that did business here over the years. It was Dealer’s Antiques for the decade prior to Larry and Becky purchasing the building.

The extensive renovation that Larry and Becky performed themselves in 2004 involved all new plumbing and electrical from the service outside to the building inside. New foundations were poured around most of the perimeter of the showroom and a new concrete floor was added throughout much of the building.

To give you a small idea of what kind of project this was, take a look at “The way it was…” image.

The Story of Our Building Continued…

High Country Stoves Building: After

Now here is the way the building looks now. It still isn’t finished, Larry and Becky have quite a few more ideas on ways to spiff up both the exterior and interior, and things will continue to improve over the next few years. Larry always says that putting in the stoves for their customers comes first before the finish details on the building.

Our Company History

As Hearth and Chimney Experts

in Laramie, Wyoming:

From the late 80’s to the end of the 90’s…

Larry and Becky James started in the hearth business with a chimney service company called Chimney Keepers.

Chimney Keepers began servicing customers in Laramie, Wyoming.

Stove sales began from the James’s home to customers that needed a good local source of wood stoves. The first store building was purchased on 5th Street in December of this year. Initially just 4 woodstoves on display. Name changed to High Country Stoves & Chimneys.

An addition was added to the first building that tripled its original size and completely filled the building lot.

From the early 2000’s to 2023 and the future…

Search began for a new location with better visibility and more room.

Purchased the old Swenson Lumber yard building on 3rd Street.

Major renovation accomplished to “new” building prior to moving into it in October. Plenty of room for growth with 28,000 sq feet under roof with two buildings and 1.8 acres right on 3rd Street.

2023 & Beyond…

Larry & Becky owe their continued success to a wonderful group of customers, a hard, honest work ethic and providing the best value for a hearth appliance in their area of Wyoming and northern Colorado.

"We purchased a hybrid stove in January 2023. Installation went well. We love the stove and its wonderful radiant warmth on these cold winter days. The folks at High Country Stoves were very professional and answered all of our questions effectively. We learned some new things about fire building in a wood stove, but we are better off for it! We are very happy with our purchase and our service!"

"I had been struggling with my pellet stove for about 7 years, I had been to every stove shop in Northern Colorado and never spoke with anyone that could assist me and my stove issue. In October of 2022 I decided to go into High Country Stoves Larimer Wyo and described my issues with my stove. After about a 45 minute discusion with Larry and Becky, Larry after him asking a ton of questions, concluded that my current pellet stove was undersized for the area that I was heating annd that perhaps the mother board was showing signs of possibly going out due to the problems I was having.

A few weeks later, I bought a new Harmon stove that Larry recomended, I have never been so pleased with a purchase. My home has even heat through out the entire house, I am burning less pellets than ever before, again per Larry's recomendation. Save the hassle, save any anxiety you might have over your current stove. Go see Larry and Becky and have them get you going in the right direction with your stove heating needs, I wish I would of talked to them 7 years ago. Their installation crew were awesome to work, with extremley knowlegable."
